Women In Focus is an artist-initiated organization of women photographers who have joined together to support and promote the photographic arts in Atlanta.

Founded in 1993 by a group of women who recognized the need for a network for women photographers who could support each other's personal, professional and artistic growth, WIF has blossomed into a thriving organization.

WIF members are proud to be participating in Atlanta Celebrates Photography. Please click on Events, then Current & Future Events. Check out our many exhibits with ACP.

2011-A Year in Review

It has been a very busy year for Women In Focus. It started off with The International Women's Month Exhibit at the top of Westin Hotel with our sister group in the Republic of Georgia. We want to thank our sponsor Digital Arts Studio for framing their images. A big thank you to the Westin for furnishing us with wonderful food for our reception and off campus meeting on March 9th.

Our first field trip was to All Stitch. Thank you, Val, for purchasing all the flowers, food, and drinks for us on March 26th. It was a fun day. Our next trip was on April 30th, at Old Car City.  Also in April many of our members donated their prints to raise money for the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children. Thanks to all of you for helping such a great cause. In March, a new volunteer stepped up for our board. Danielle now sends out our official WIF Newsletter and it is totally free to our non-profit group. Thank you so much, it looks great and helps us all keep up with what's happening in our group. This year, thanks to our treasurer, Myrtie, we have PayPal set up to make it very easy to pay our dues and entry fees. Thank you, thank you, Myrtie. We also now have a WIF email address!

We were very excited to have Brett Abbott, new curator of photography at the High as our June speaker and judge for WIF XVIII. We had two summer exhibits: "Summer In The City" at the Central Library and "Laws of Attraction" at the Buckhead Library. Thank you to both of the directors for inviting us to such great venues.

Atlanta Celebrates Photography, of course, was a very busy month for our WIF group. Our juried exhibit, now in its 18th year, was exhibited at Mason Murer and judged by Brett Abbott. Our reception turned out to be the largest number of guests attending ever, with the largest number of WIF members juried in at 30 members. Thank you to Mark for having us; it was a great night out and venue, and thank you to Brett. There was also an Artist Panel discussion on Women in Photography, with several of our members invited to participate. Our Annual Artist's Choice Exhibit, titled “ Girls Night Out”, was exhibited at Digital Arts Studio. It was a great reception with food provided by DAS. Thank you to Barry, Robin and Peter for their support and great discounts and making our post card invites.

December activities included the help of several of you with the third year of Help-Portrait International on Dec. 10th. I am happy to say we printed over 200 portraits for the Women’s Homeless Shelter, Foster Care Kids and Families at the Child Development Association. Thank you to those who helped at such a busy time of the year. Our Annual Holiday Party and Print Swap this year was at Villa Christina. What a beautiful place to party! Big thank you to Beate and Val for calling around and helping find our party place.

We have had so many stories and successes this year from our members being juried in to so many exhibits in the Atlanta area, around the country, overseas, and in magazines. It has really been a  milestone year for WIF and its members. Our fabulous volunteers and work groups (hanging teams and reception food teams) continue to help throughout the year, and many members continue to offer assistance in helping other members. We want to thank our small, but talented and hard working WIF Board and all of its volunteers who work tirelessly to mesh resources with the needs of our group. As you all know, we are a volunteer organization that depends on your support.

Special thank you to Gail who took over our website after our webmaster passed away in March. Thank you to Kel Kyle who is now our new webmaster and who is completely redesigning our site. Thank you to Amira, who posts all our meetings and events on Facebook and Twitter. Another thank you to Lynne who made labels for almost all our exhibits this year and to Val who made all our copies, entry forms etc,. And more thank you's to the new ladies volunteering to be on the 2012 Board: Beate and Lynne. And certainly not last, but right on top, our sponsors, Digital Arts Studio, Showcase, and Peachtree Camera Repair for their continuing support to Women In Focus. And of course a huge thank you to The Atlanta Girl’s School for giving us our incredible meeting space. Thank you, thank you all.

As the New Year approaches, we want to send our best wishes to all and  our most sincere thanks for your support to Women In Focus.
