Tips
- Cropping without destruction
- "As for cropping, there's a built-in solution available that enables you to crop without actually losing your image data. Convert your Background image layer to a normal layer by double-clicking it and clicking OK in the New Layer dialog box. Then choose the Crop tool, and draw the crop box on your image. Before you actually apply the crop, select Hide from the Cropped Area setting on the Options bar. This will cause the document to be resized based on your crop, with the cropped pixels falling outside that document area rather than being removed from the image altogether. Save the cropped image as a Photoshop PSD or TIFF image, and you'll be able to get back to the original later by selecting Image > Reveal All from the menu." —John Mariana (e-mail)
- Six P's and Q's (or "good manners") about being an Artist:
-
- At art fairs, don't solicit dealers.
- Get terms in writing when dealing with galleries, and pay attention to who gives up what when the dealer gives a discount on your work.
- The artist has a responsibility to bring in customers when given a gallery show. Don't just hand over the responsibility to the gallerist.
- Build a relationship with gallerists. Ask about the work they are showing. Surprise them with politeness.
- Ethics are coming back.
- On Flicker, edit your page. Make it reflect only quality. —Susan Todd-Raque (e-mail)
